Summer is always so much fun! The beach and pool times, the wash and gos, the sun....
Interestingly, some of these things we so much enjoy can impact our hair's appearance and make the transition into fall, from humidity to dryness, not fun at all!
So how do we embrace the coming season and still manage to look fabulous? Here's some expert tips!
1. TRIM
Over the summer the humidity mixed with the sun's heat and other elements like air pollution and our fast paced lifestyles tends to take a toll in our older hair at the tips. If your stylist hasn't suggested it yet, trimming is the way to go to keep your strands from splitting and give your hair a more consistent look all throughout. How much to trim will depend on how long it has been since your last haircut, your stylist's suggestion and how much hair you're willing to let go of.
2. REPOLARIZE
Whether you cut or not, repolarizing is a must before and after chemical procedures and before/during important environment changes. This means your stylist will apply a rebalancing or neutralizing shampoo and then will apply a deep conditioner or a mixture of them. The rebalancing shampoo will deep cleanse the strand from any trace of products you used for your summer looks and prepare the hair to receive deeper moisture. Think of this as 'resetting' your hair and getting ready for the change.
3. REPLENISH
Summer-fall transition is the most ideal moment to get that keratin or botox treatment you once read about. These protein based treatments are ideal for replenishing and saving the most amount of rescuable strands from total damage because they work from inside the cortex of the hair by filling it and boosting their appearance.
4. INTEGRATE OILS AND DEEP TREATMENTS TO YOUR WASH ROUTINE; OILY SCALP OR NOT!
Oils and deep treatments are a fantastic way to diminish frizz, allowing the hair to stay moisturized longer. They're most effective when applied only on ends for a minimum of 10 minutes up to an hour prior to shampooing. This practice is also good for naturally oily hair, because you won't be applying on the scalp and because you'll wash any excess of the oil during shampoo, leaving enough to help moisturize your ends. Consistency in oil treatment use throughout the fall will guarantee shine and smoothness, especially at the time of detangling. Apply a generous amount and put a plastic cap on for best results.
